Destination Hong Kong (Day 4)

Sadly, it is the last day of our Hong Kong Trip. I woke up around 6am because we intend to go to the Haiphong Market near our area. My parents want to buy some fruits so we can have a check in baggage. They are craving for oranges, grapes, kiwi, and grapefruit we head to the market but the vendors offered that we buy the fruits in Wellcome supermarket near the area because they are still closed. So we stop by a bakery eat some delicious bread and then entered the supermarket. I did my own grocery and they did too. We head back to the hotel around 9:30am and started packing our things as we are going to check out around 11:30. Because our flight back to Manila is still at 7:30pm, we left our things in the hotel after checking out and ate lunch in Yoshinoya. Afterwards, my dad craved for this deep fried squid he saw in Haiphong road so they went back there but my sister and I did our quick shopping in Granville road. We decided to meet at the hotel around 3pm but we are late by 15minutes. An unexpected event happened which I won’t disclose here but that is the reason that we ran out of time and rode the bus around 5pm going to the airport. We arrived at the airport around 5:45pm Terminal 2. But my friend advised me the wrong terminal as I chat with him in the bus, it is supposed to be at Terminal 1. So we ran up to Terminal 1 because we are going late already. We finally checked in by 6:15pm. We are supposed to be in the boarding area by 6:50 but my parents insists of getting the refund in our Octopus card so my dad and I ran to the Customer Service Area to the MTR Express Service Station to get the refunds. I checked my clock and it is 6:45 already. But I really want to use the refund to buy my favorite chocolate in Okashi Land so I literally was running in the airport. I spend the HKD200 refund to buy 2 boxes of Meltykiss. Then I ran again and we are off to the Immigration area. We are glad that we didn’t experienced hassle there like checking what’s inside the bags because we are really late. We are running going to the Boarding area and yes it is 7:05 already and we are still waiting for the train that will get us to Gate 50. After riding the train, it is like a 1 kilometer walk to get to the last Gate in that floor and at exactly 7:15, we saw the final call for our flight and boarded the plane. We are not the last passengers are some went to shopping before boarding the area. We didn’t have the time to do that. Jus like that! We are back to the Philippines by 9:30 pm and went to Paranaque, eat dinner, and went to Bulacan by 1:30am. We are all exhausted and tired. We have some sort of phobia to the rain after what happened to us. But as we looked at the pictures the day after, all mishaps were outweighed of the beautiful experiences that remained in our memories. Good bye Hong Kong. Until next time???

Destination Hong Kong (Day 3)

Day 3 is Ocean Park and The Peak day. It is still signal #3 in Hong Kong. We went to MTR Admiralty where we bought the tickets and rode the bus route 629 to Ocean Park around 10am. The Park is just 30minutes ride. It’s a very cloudy day. Even if it’s just 10am, it seems like it is already 5:30pm. Then we arrived the Ocean Park, took pictures in the entrance then kaboom! - the massive rain showers poured. As we are entering, the staff told us that the rides are closed. But we have no choice as I already entered the park. We just hoped that we can enjoy the tour and the shows. We entered the Atoll Reef where we stayed the most time as we are all fond of watching the different kinds of fishes in the huge aquarium. We all enjoyed them. My most favorite is the Stingray which killed Steve Irwin last 2006. I also saw the ugliest fish I've ever seen in my life. I don't know what its called but it's in the picture. Fortunately, at around 1pm, the storm signal was lowered to signal #1 so some of the rides were re-opened. I rode the mine train. Well, it looks like a small roller coaster for me. But wow, it made me cry to thrill. It’s like as if I will be thrown to the ocean underneath the train. After that, I didn’t ride anything again. While my sister and brother enjoyed the rides such as the Dragon Roller Coaster, Raging River, and the Space Wheel, I just ate lunch with my parents. Seriously, Ocean Park offers breathtaking thrills for all those who want to satisfy their adventure needs. But to do that, other than a good fine weather, you also need to be prepared in a long walk around the park. It’s really tiring because you have to go up and down. Around 3:30pm, we finally rode the cable car going back to the Bus. Ocean Park is really not complete without the ride of cable car so we really took the chance before the signal #3 is hoisted again. The downhill of Ocean Park is for the kids so we just walk around and find this How to Train a Dragon Set. Because we love the movie, we entered and saw the wax of the characters and dragon inside. It’s fun but after that the rain shower hit us again so we have to put our raincoats again. Finally, we rode the 629 Bus going to Admiralty Station and we head back to our hotel. My dad is insisting of going to the Peak but we are all wet and cold. I told him that all we can see is fog on our way up. It is really not worth it (If I can only capture the heavy rain showers and show it here). Well, maybe next time. So, we change our clothes, eat noodles, and fix our things. We decided to go to MongKok and buy the camera of my sister. Before buying the camera, we went to the Ladies Market to buy some HK T-shirt souvenirs. I never expected that the vendors here are a little crazy literally. One lady vendor just grabbed my arm and told me, “Give me money! Give me money!”, so my sister and I just ran off and I heard her with other vendors laughing out loud. Oh my God! I really won’t ever go back to that place. They’re crazy. Actually all of their products except for the HK souvenirs can be bought in the 168 mall here in Manila so why go there and pay higher. Oh well. After that, we bought the camera in Wing Shing Electronics which I researched as one of the recommended stores to buy digital electronics. Yeah, I think it’s much lower than in Hidalgo, Quiapo. Good choice. We went to the high-end Langham Mall still in MongKok and rode the MTR going back to TST. It’s around 11pm and I am eager to go to Granville and buy clothes but my sister is already tired and I don’t want to go alone after that MongKok experience. So I chat again with my online friends and sleep. I can feel my aching legs..

Destination Hong Kong (Day 2)

It was last May 30 when I booked our family Hong Kong trip for July 20-23. Everything seems fine from the start since booking, planning our 4-days itinerary, choosing the hotel, departing from Manila, and exactly doing out first day in HK. Then came day 2 – what I fear the most in our trip happened – Signal number 3 has been hoisted in HK. One week before, I already checked the 7-day forecast of our trip and yes it has been predicted that July 20-23 has a “cloudy with few rain showers” forecast. It didn’t bother me at all because I thought that it is just “few” rain showers thinking that it is just mild. Well, it turned out to be the “Ondoy-type” of rain with super typhoon wind that will blow you away.. literally if you are like 70 pounds maybe. I put thetrip and Disneyland in our day 2 because it is the most important thing to do. Disneyland has been everyone’s dream to visit in Hong Kong. It is really not complete if this is not accomplished. We woke up early and head to Tung Chung where we can ride the Ngong Ping 360 cable car going to the Golden Buddha. Ticket booth is open by 10:00 am and we arrived by 8:00 am. This is how punctual I can really be. Actually we have a choice of going to Lantau Island by Bus that will take 45 minutes instead of using the cable car that will only take 25 minutes. We decided to wait for the cable car since it is a new experience for us except for my mom and dad. Thankfully, the Citygate mall is just beside the area so we hang out a bit inside even though the boutiques are still closed but the grocery is opened already so we took our time there. By 10am we head back to main entrance of cable car then boom! Due to signal number 1, it is temporarily closed. We decided to go to Disneyland and scrap out the Lantau Island trip because if we will take the bus going to Lantau, our time in Disneyland will be shortened. By this time, I am very anxious already if there will be fireworks in Disneyland. Then we went to Disneyland Resort even if it is signal #1. It was as if the storm is chasing us. Just upon arrival in the resort, heavy rains just poured while we are taking the picture in the main entrance. Notice the dark cloudy skies and dancing trees in the background of our picture. As we went in the ticket booth, the seller told us that all rides have been closed because the signal #3 has just been hoisted. Are you kidding me??? – That is what inside my head when I heard that. Then I stopped for a moment and went beside the booth and we had this sort of brainstorming whether we would come in even if there are no rides or will change the plan. Of course, I have my own do-it-yourself itinerary and this dummy for HK travelers. I browsed it and checked if there are other places to go near the resort. I guess not in that kind of weather, there is really nothing to do besides sleeping in the hotel and hang out in the malls nearby. But I am not convinced of that idea because I really want to explore some tourist destinations in HK. So we have no choice but to take the bus to Lantau Island. Upon arrival in Lantau, heavy rains poured and our umbrella were torn due to strong winds. We have to buy these raincoats that became our best buddy in our entire HK trip. I cannot describe the massive rain showers with strong winds but I really hate it. We took the risk of going to the Golden Buddha wherein we have to take 240 steps up stairs to see the Buddha up close. I really am afraid going up because I sort of have fear with any motion going up. My knees are trembling but step by step I finally conquered the highest point in Lantau Island. Whew. By the way, strong winds made every step up harder. They say that you have to wish in the temple so I did. We hardly took pictures there and went down to eat lunch. As we are looking for the dine in restaurant, we saw the temple inside and fix ourselves. We chat with fellow Filipino (mother and daughter) and took pictures with the Buddhist statues. Afterwards, we rode the bus back to Tung Chung where we decided to eat lunch/dinner in Citygate Mall food court. The food court is very large and it has so many choices of food that comes from different Asian countries.. Well except for the Philippines. I wonder why. I chose the Taiwan cuisine. After eating, we decided to go around the mall. I found an Ice Watch Outlet store and bought this green watch that I fell in love with. Luckily it is on 30% discount sale so I save quite money. We left Citygate around 7:30PM I think then head back to our hotel. It is rush hour in Hong Kong so we are standing in the MTR. After fixing ourselves in the hotel, I decided to go to Harbour City which is on my list of must-go-to-mall. My sister came along with me. There we saw almost all the famous brands along the street. They are huge stores compared to what I saw in the states. Louis Vuitton, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, etc. are all shining along Canton Road in TST. We went to H&M and bought some clothes. After that, we ate in Burger King and head back to the hotel as our legs says stop! And also it is drizzling and we are afraid to get caught up again by the storm. I stayed online to chat with my friends and slept by 2AM. This is just a start of more stormy days to come..

Destination Hong Kong (Day 1)

We are finally going to Hong Kong!

Our flight is at 7:55am so we left Bulacan around 4am, went to my sister’s house in Paranaque and Kuya Sam fetch us to the airport. Everything is smooth as we planned. We boarded around 7:30 and exactly 8:00, we flew to HK.We landed the Hong Kong International Airport at exactly 10am and as expected, this airport is nothing compared to the NAIA and LA airport. It was really huge! Imagine there is a train going to and from inside! Because it is our first time, I keep an eye to my printed own “dummy for HK traveler” so we didn’t get lost inside. We bought the octopus card and got maps and brochures about Hong Kong. As we are heading to the exit, we felt very hungry but decided to just eat in our area in TST. So we head to the Airbus 21 Terminal going to the city. While riding the bus, I checked my phone and wow, there is wifi. So during the 45minutes trip, I am emailing my friends and of course checking the latest NBA Free-agency news. I am the only one who didn’t sleep in the bus. In our itinerary, it says that we have to stop in Bus stop 14. So after the drop off point 13, I am eagerly waiting to the next stop but then when I checked the LED screen flashing inside the bus, it is already 15. Blame it all to the paper. I just print out the directions. I didn’t notice that the bus stops are all odd numbers. So we walked from East Tsim Sha Tsui to the main road of TST along Nathan Road for like 15 minutes. We checked in the City Guesthouse inside Chung King Mansions. It is a budgetel and I chose it because it has many good reviews in the net. I was supposed to book Tai San but was left with 1 room only it is really meant to be to this hotel. We rest and fix our things and walk to the nearest fastfood to eat lunch. Guess where? – McDonalds!!! Well, we are very hungry that time so who can complain. There are so many Filipino around and my dad always talked to them mostly Pinays. After eating by 3pm, we head to Mong Kong. Ride the MTR for the first time. Wow, it is really amazing. It’s very fast and can accommodate like thousands if full. Mong Kok is just 3 stations away from TST so we arrived after 5minutes. We went to the famous Ladies Market, Electronics, and Sporting Goods streets. We checked out different street foods. I saw a food store which sells this not-so-tasty-awful-smell soup. Just look at the picture.. eeww. Almost in every block, there are vendors of milk tea which I like. By 5pm, we head back to TST to go to the Avenue of Stars. It’s like the Chinese version of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in LA. Of course I didn’t miss the chance to see Jackie Chan’s star. I am looking for Shu Qi’s star but didn’t see it maybe she has none yet. After taking pictures with the stars, we went to the SOGO mall which is just 5minutes away from there. We stayed there until 7:45 and then we head back to the Avenue of Stars where we await the Symphony of Lights. By 8:15, the show started and it runs for 15minutes. It didn’t amaze me at all. But I still took video of the whole show. By 8:30pm we walked to our area and find KFC along Cameron Road. It’s weird that KFC & Mcdo in HK has no rice so we just ordered burgers. By 10pm, my sister and I went to Granville Road where many says that there are many clothing stores around. By 11pm, due to my sister’s call of nature, we went back to the hotel and sleep. Well I did around 1am because I am still chatting with my friends in Manila. Day 1 itinerary is nicely done.

Baby Baby Baby Ohh..

The report says Justin Bieber's "Baby" is the most watched video in YouTube's history. More than 249 million watched it and still counting. Well I am not one of those crazy "Beliebers" but I am a fan especially the Baby song as we always dance it every tuesday at Retro. I am amazed with this Canadian pop singer who was discovered on YouTube because he writes his own music. He is really talented. Well, congrats. This video reminds me of my Universal Studios Trip.

Lady Antebellum.. Wow!!!

I really love Lady Antebellum. I've been repeatedly playing their album for a week. The lyrics of their songs are just perfect. Of all their songs, here is my favorite:

"Ready to Love Again"

Seems like I was walking in the wrong direction

I barely recognized my own reflection, no
Scared of love, but scared of life alone.
Seems I've been playing on the safe side baby
Building walls around my heart to save me, oh
But it's time for me to let it go.

Yeah, I'm ready to feel now
No longer am I 'fraid of the fall down
It must be time to move on now
Without the fear of how it might end
I guess I'm ready to love again.

Just when you think love will never find you
You run away and it's right behind you, oh
It's just something that we can't control.

Yeah, I'm ready to feel now
No longer am I 'fraid of the fall down
It must be time to move on now
Without the fear of how it might end
I guess I'm ready to love again.

So come and find me
I'll be waiting up for you
I'll be holding out for you tonight.

Yeah, I'm ready to feel now
No longer am I 'fraid of the fall down
It must be time to move on now
Without the fear of how it might end
I guess I'm ready, ready to love again.

She's Out My League

In fairness, I liked the movie. A simple and straightforward movie. I totally love all the bluntness and crude humour. Yes it is a low budget movie but it is way better than the other chick flicks coming out in theaters lately. The movie stars Jay Baruchel as Kirk. In this movie, Kirk has low self-esteem and is an under-achiever. He met Molly (Alice Eve) and starts dating her. Molly is the opposite of Kirk in that she's got a great job, a great place to live and connections all over Pittsburgh. Hilarity ensues when the two start to get serious and each person's insecurities come to the forefront. Conflict begins when jay felt insecure about himself being with Molly. Personally, I really hate this "hard 10 factor". The hard 10 factor plays a part in this film judging people solely based on their looks, there are a number of times this is used wherein Kirk is considered a 5 by his friends from the start. Molly is considered a hard 10 and the physically ideal woman. Sure it has a few scenes like this, but underneath it all there was a romantic story with lots of well delivered dialogue. I think this film will appeal to many as it has something in it for everyone to enjoy. This film may inspire some 5’s out there to chase after the 10’s. It was a pretty down to earth film and fairly realistic in some ways to the modern day lifestyle. I’d say that the movie is quite vulgar nevertheless, it made me laugh and it made my day. The movie has a few laughs here & there. One lesson to take from this movie - Don't listen to your peers, they can be very wrong sometimes and be confident in yourself. None of us is perfect. When you met some one who is worth to be with, then you found the precious and the "perfect 10" for yourself. Well basically it's all about acceptance of the other person and especially yourself. If you are confident enough about your self, then there is nothing else to it. It's not about changing one person's flaws, but to accept them as who they are. I still hate those guys who rate the woman though. Here's the trailer. I recommend this if you're up to a nice feel good rom-com movie.

We are all Witnesses

Historical decision has finally been made today. Yes it is official – Lebron James will join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami Heat. Honestly, I’m already expecting the King to leave Cleveland after an early exit in the 2010 Playoffs but I really did not expect that he will choose the Heat over other teams buying for him such as the Knicks and Bulls. On the much-awaited interview aired today, he emphasized on his desire to win not only regular season games but also multiple championships with his new team. I cannot blame Lebron on this decision since after playing all his seven years career in Ohio on a high level, he still cannot deliver a ring. With his competitive mentality, I guess any player in his position will agree on his choice. When you gave up everything you had and still got negative result, you will feel miserable and tired of it. Now that Heat has set up the maybe greatest big three for the years to come, this team is undeniably a threat to all other NBA teams. Imagine during times when Lebron will have an off-night game, either Wade or Bosh can pick it up. I assume they already established their chemistry when they played for Team USA in FIBA so playing with each other should not be a problem. As an NBA fan, I would be very happy to see these exciting players run the floor doing crazy basketball stuffs but I cannot deny the fact that I am worried on the Lakers’ quest for three-peat next season. Well, it all depends in the chemistry and who wants it more. For Cleveland, well we know that you cannot get another Lebron James type of player but I guess being a witness to seven years of amazing seasons with Lebron is already an achievement. Yes Lebron didn’t get the Cavaliers a ring but I know that Lebron’s heart will always be in his hometown forever. It’s just unfortunate for them that Lebron left to fill a missing piece in his heart to make everything better. That’s life. I believe Cleveland will eventually move on with their new head coach Byron Scott. Cleveland fans just have to deal with the loss and who knows maybe in God’s time, they will again be witnesses to greatness.

Today

Today I watched three Tagalog movies: Here Comes The Bride, Working Girls, and You To Me Are Everything. In fairness, they all made me laugh and are all feel-good movies. I didn’t like the plot and ending of Here Comes The Bride but Angelica is so amazingly funny here. I really like her role. Eugene is better in Kimmy Dora and Working Girls. I can’t help but laugh during her scenes in Working Girls especially those with Ricky Davao. Surprisingly, I like You To Me Are Everything starring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes. The role of Marian as Igorot fits her although it could have been better if they change Marian to a more morena look but still she showed her very natural “palengkera” style of acting which I liked the most. The story is not unique but I kinda liked the twists. I will definitely recommend this to my friends.

Today is Wednesday which means overtime day for me so I had to finish all my pending maintenances but I still did not finish it today. While working, Mark sat beside me because he is waiting for Edward, his roommate. We had a little chat about our usual topic. Mark is always teasing me to some guys and it’s very funny that we enjoyed having that kind of conversation. Ever since we became close two years ago, I really appreciate Mark being a trustworthy friend. I am very comfortable sharing things to him especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Even though we both know how hopeless my case is with this guy that I like, he always makes fun out it and we always end up laughing to ourselves because of this crazy thoughts of what ifs. Mark is really a very good friend – kind, gentleman, soft-spoken, and funny in his own unique ways. I still can’t believe that I snubbed him for some time before when he is still new in the bank. He still reminds me that stupid act of mine sometimes and I always tell him how sorry and “regretful” I am by doing that. No doubt I consider Mark as one of the best

guys I’ve met in the office. Kristel is very lucky. They are really a good couple.

Today, I received the sign I’ve been waiting regarding my decision in my career. Oh well.

Today, I used mind over heart. Hoping for a good outcome.

What's Not To Love, Karate Kid?

Finally I watched all of the previous four Karate Kid movies. I do not want to watch the remake of it starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith until I’ve watched the previous Quadrilogy. What can I say but I gotta love the Karate Kid. I think one of the main reasons I loved the Karate Kid so much is because even though Daniel Larusso (played by Ralph Macchio) was always getting beaten up or bullied in any way, he always ended up on top. It always gave me a sense of hope because he was such a fragile looking guy and he didn’t look like he could come out victorious but he always did in the end. "Paint the fence," "Wax on/wax off" or "Sand the floor" are such an immortal words that will no doubt be remembered for years to come. One of my favorite scenes in movie is the part when Larusso discovered that Mr. Miyagi (played by the late great comedian Pat Morita) is a valor. Scenes after that realization are very inspiring as the movie shows Daniel-san practicing more and doing it alone especially the crane kick. The background music simply just makes it better. The musical score of the movie is the best, very inspiring. I will say that my favorite part is the crane kick. You can see the determination of Daniel in his face. It’s insanely remarkable. What I felt after watching the four films is like I watched the Ten Commandments. While it is a heart-warming tale of the underdog overcoming tough odds, I think there are some lessons we can learn from this movie that most people miss. It’s really moving and the thoughts imparted in the movie are just captivating. Here are some of the unforgettable lesson-filled quotes that from the movie.

“First learn stand, then learn fly. Nature rule, Daniel-san, not mine.”
Daniel desperately wanted to learn how to do the crane kick after just a few lessons. Miyagi responded that there’s a specific order of things in Karate just like in nature. So he taught Daniel progressively more difficult strikes, balancing techniques, and blocks, built up his confidence, and only then did he allow Daniel-san to learn the Crane Kick.

“You mean there were times when you were scared to fight?” “Always scared.”
Mr. Miyagi, the guy who could single-handedly defeat six Cobra Kai at once, was always scared to fight. And yet, he still took care of business when necessary. This might be the most important lesson of all and one I’ll always remember.

“We make sacred pact. I promise teach karate to you. You promise learn. I say. You do. No questions.”
Mr. Miyagi had to ignore Daniel-san’s tendency to think he already knew what he was doing and to force Daniel to learn from the ground up, from scratch. He had to do this even when Daniel progressed to the level of punching with gloves and protective gear.

Daniel: When do I learn how to punch?
Miyagi: Better learn balance. Balance is key. Balance good, karate good. Everything good. Balance bad, better pack up, go home. Understand?
...
Daniel: [practicing blocks in Mr. Miyagi's boat] When am I gonna learn how to punch?
Miyagi: Learn how punch, after you learn how keep dry! [rocks boat, throwing Daniel into the water]
-- perfect example of Be Patient with Progress; the “Why” Will Become Clear over Time

“Sweep the leg.” – Oh no, this is not inspirational but I just hate this famous dialogue. It scares me a lot.

Watch Karate Kid. I would definitely watch the 2010 version soon. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a leg to sweep! I mean I have a car to wax and a fence to paint.. =)

Amazing Sam Tsui

Even though Sam Tsui didn't get into the Glee Season 2 Cast, I'm still a huge fan. =)

Anyway here are the latest vids.. SICK!

I Miss Hollywood.. =(

Wow it’s already July! Time really flies so fast nowadays. Just five months from now is the Christmas season again. Oh my! I badly miss my US trip last December. If only I could go back there again this year. I miss the kind people, the shopping outlets (Cabazon!), the food cooked by Tita Rhoda (the steak!) and Kuya Jene (the Pink Pork Binagoongan!) and of course the places we visited (Downtown, Bear Mountain, Disney!!!). Gosh! I think my one month stay in Los Angeles + Las Vegas + San Francisco will be the happiest days of my life. During my stay there, I only have to think of what and where to shop and tour around – Yes, seriously! I miss shopping in LA!!! – Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, $0.99 store, Target waaaaah! I just realized how overpriced are the products here in Manila. Like in States, you can buy Nine West Bags for $10. The Jansport Bags are sold $16-20, Converse shoes for $19-20, Little Caesar’s one whole pizza for $5 (no waiting!), Nike & Abercrombie shirts for $10, H&M pants for $10, and Anne Klein watches for $25 – Oh, I just want to go shop again there! So don’t be surprised if I say that since experiencing shopping in LA, I never ever again shop in any boutiques here in Manila. I am very lucky that we stayed in a very hospitable and nice people in LA who toured us around and make ourselves feel at home.
I am still overwhelmed with their kindness to us. Sometimes I still imagine myself in my room there wondering how many layers of jackets will I wear to ease the cold winter nights and staying late to search the net on what things am I missing to buy. My vacation in LA is really “heaven”. Obviously, I am missing those wonderful moments in LA. All I can do now is to browse the pictures and watch the videos so I could somehow lessen my “longing”. I just hope that I could visit again the City of Angels someday. Sigh.
