Planking is the New Jump Shot

What in the world is planking you ask? It’s a pose where the subject/s lie face down with arms on the side straight and stiff as a wooden plank.

This stunt or prank or however you wish to call it gained massive popularity in South Australia but is now being done by a lot of Filipinos already. With us being a nation of Facebook users and cam-whores, it’s not surprising that we’d pick up this craze and turn it into a local phenomena.

What are the rules of planking?

1. First the position. You should be lying face down straight with your arms on the side, face looking down and feet close together pointing to the ground. Don’t look at the camera.

2. You can do this on a horizontal or even a slanting position for a different effect.

3. The more outrageous photo the better but it should also be safe. Dangerous poses are just stupid unless you know what you are doing.

4. Anybody can join. Men, women, old, young and even little ones. Solo or multiple planks, it doesn’t matter.

5. Finally, upload your photos online to show to other plankers. The trick here is to take shots in creative angles.

In Facebook there are already a number of Philippine-planking pages where you can post your photos. Planking Pinas (facebook.com/plankinphilippines) is perhaps the most popular with already 54,000+ likes as of this writing. There are even school planking groups already in Facebook.

I won’t be surprised if you’re going to do some silly planking photos on your next party or gathering or vacation with your friends.

You know you want to.
